# Insenia — Health & Safety / Crisis Disclaimer

Last updated: 15 June 2026

## What Insenia is — and what it isn't

Insenia is an evening self-reflection and wellbeing companion. It is a quiet mirror for noticing how your days feel over time — nothing more.

Please read this clearly: **Insenia is not a medical device, not therapy, not a diagnosis, and not a treatment. It is not an emergency or crisis service.** It does not provide medical, psychological, or clinical advice of any kind. Nothing in the app is a clinical assessment or a professional opinion.

When the app reflects your mood or affect, it shows it **only as colour** (sage, sand, terracotta) — never as a clinical score, a number, or a verdict about you. Colour is a gentle way to notice patterns, not a measurement of your health.

## Who Insenia is for (minimum age)

Insenia is intended for people aged **16 and over**. Please do not use the app if you are younger than this. We ask for your age band during onboarding to respect this, and because some of what you share with Insenia is sensitive personal information that deserves careful, lawful handling.

## If you are in crisis right now

If you are thinking about harming yourself or someone else, or you feel unsafe, please reach out to real human help straight away. Insenia cannot help you in an emergency, and it is not designed to.

- **In the EU, call 112** (emergency services), or your local emergency number.
- Or contact one of the **regional helplines** listed inside the app, on the support screen.

These helplines are real people who want to help. You deserve that support, and asking for it is a sign of strength.

## How our safety screening works

When you record a voice note, Insenia screens it for signs of crisis in two steps:

1. **First, an on-device keyword pre-screen.** This runs entirely on your phone, every time, whether you are online or offline, and looks for words and phrases that may signal self-harm, suicide, hopelessness, or harm to others.
2. **Then, an AI safety check.** If a note passes the first step and you have a connection, the raw transcript is sent **transiently** (briefly, and not to be stored) to an automated AI safety classifier to take a closer, gentler look for the same kinds of concern. This classifier is run by our AI sub-processor, **Anthropic (Claude)**, and is called only from our secure server functions.

If either step flags a possible crisis:

- **Nothing from that voice note is kept.** The raw transcript is **never sent to or stored on our servers.** It may be briefly held, encrypted (AES-256-GCM), on your own device while it waits to be screened — for example if you are offline — and it is **deleted on or after screening**. Any remaining raw text on the device is purged within 30 days at the latest.
- The app then shows a **static, pre-written support screen** with local helpline resources. This screen **works fully offline**, so it is there for you even with no connection.

This screening is an automated safety step, not a clinical judgement, and not a substitute for a trained professional. It is best-effort: it does its best to notice concerning signs, but it **cannot detect every situation** and may miss some. It cannot reach out to anyone on your behalf, and it makes no decision that has any legal or similarly significant effect on you — its only outcome is to show you the support screen. Your voice notes are **never used to train any AI model.**

## What you agree to before sharing sensitive information (your consent)

Some of what you may share with Insenia is **special-category personal data** under EU data-protection law (GDPR Article 9): your self-reported mood and energy, any "health" concern you choose, voice notes that may touch on health, grief, or crisis, an inferred personality picture (never shown to you), and — only if you choose to add them — your biological sex and your sleep and step data from Apple Health or Health Connect.

Because this information is sensitive, we process it **only with your explicit, freely-given consent**, which we ask for **separately from our Terms of Service** — agreeing to the Terms is not the same as agreeing to this. We keep a record of the consent you give, and you can **withdraw it at any time** from the app's privacy settings, without it affecting anything that happened before. Withdrawing consent, or declining it, simply means the related features pause; the free evening ritual still works.

## Where your data lives, and who helps us run Insenia

Insenia is **local-first**: your phone is the source of truth, and the app works fully offline. Some data is synced to our servers so you can recover and continue across devices. Our servers are hosted in the **EU (Frankfurt / the European Union (Frankfurt region, eu-central-1))**.

Two kinds of data **never leave your device**: your raw voice transcripts, and any Apple Health / Health Connect sleep and step data.

The AI safety check described above involves sending the raw transcript **transiently** to **Anthropic**, whose processing may take place outside the EU (including the United States). Where that happens, the transfer is protected by appropriate safeguards (such as the European Commission's **Standard Contractual Clauses**) under GDPR Chapter V, and Anthropic processes the data under **zero-retention** terms and does **not** train on it.

We do **not** use any third-party analytics, crash-reporting, advertising, or tracking tools. There are no ads in Insenia, and we do not profile you for marketing.

Other companies that help us operate the app (our processors) include **Apple** and **Google** (app stores, in-app purchases, on-device speech, secure key storage, Apple Health / Health Connect, push notifications), **Supabase** (our EU-hosted database and server functions), **Expo / EAS** (push delivery), **RevenueCat** (subscription management, keyed to a pseudonymous reference with no personal details passed by the app), and **Anthropic** (the AI features above). Full details of every processor, what each receives, and how long we keep things, are in our **Privacy Policy** — see below.

## Your rights and controls

You stay in control of your information. Directly in the app you can:

- **Export everything** — download all your data as a JSON file at any time.
- **Delete your account and all data** — a permanent, hard delete of your account and its data on our servers, plus a wipe of the app's local data and security keys on your device (with a double confirmation, so it is never accidental).

You also have the rights granted by GDPR — including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection. To exercise any of these, or to ask a question, contact us using the details below. Our full **Privacy Policy** explains your rights, our legal bases, retention periods, and every processor in detail.

## Insenia is not a substitute for professional care

Insenia is a companion for reflection, not a replacement for proper support. If you are struggling, grieving, or worried about your mental or physical health, please speak with a qualified professional — a doctor, therapist, or counsellor. They can offer the care, diagnosis, and treatment that an app simply cannot.

Reaching out for professional help is always a good and brave choice.
